Traverse City, Mich., November 9, 2011 -
Salamander Technologies announced today that its MOBILE PIV™
software has successfully completed the Initial Capability
Evaluation (ICE) for reading and verifying Transportation Worker
Identification Credentials (TWIC) under various use
scenarios. MOBILE PIV™ software was evaluated on the Motorola
MC 75A and DAP CE 3240B mobile units. The TWIC ICE List includes
information on all readers and software that demonstrated to the
Transportation Security Administration and U.S. Coast Guard
successful completion of the evaluation.
MOBILE PIV™ provides a three-factor authentication of TWIC
credentials:
1. What you have (the card)
2. What you know (a PIN)
3. Who you are (photo/fingerprint)
The software can also verify the credential against a Card
Cancellation List to ensure the card is still valid and has not
been revoked or compromised. TWIC cards are now a secure form
of identification for transportation workers across the USA and are
being used for access control and identity checks in ports and
other transportation hubs. Besides reading and verifying TWIC
cards, MOBILE PIV™ software can also read and verify other
federally-issued smart cards including the military CAC card and
other FIPS 201 cards.
The Salamander Difference
While other vendors may verify TWIC cards, Salamander is the only
vendor that verifies TWIC cards - as well as military CAC and FIPS
201 cards - and brings the transaction data into a "tag to web"
personnel accountability solution. This allows incident or
event managers to have total resource visibility on personnel under
their jurisdiction including transportation workers, military or
National Guard, FEMA, state & local 1st responders, volunteers,
contractors and civilian evacuees. Salamander's interTRAX®
solution provides resource reports for both on-scene and off-scene
incident managers using a store-and-forward application that can
function even in a communications-out environment.
"Having our MOBILE PIV™ software on the TWIC ICE List is a great
accomplishment" stated Mike Whelan, Executive Vice President of
Salamander. "But that is just the tip of the iceberg.
The real value is in taking identify verification data and putting
it into an event or incident context so that incident managers have
complete situational awareness - including security clearance - on
the personnel at their field site".
